ABOUT HOMIES ON DONKEYS

Owner and Head Chef Smokey pursues the creation of food that evokes the kind of good times one reminisces about: fun, easy-going, heartwarming and fulfilling. He does so by practicing the ethos that characterises him in as a musician, with the freedom to improvise, selecting and mixing local and staple Mexican ingredients with humour and imagination, to produce food that inspires in people the same feeling of having just danced to their favourite tunes.

AWARD WINNING TACOS

HOMIES ON DONKEYS KICKSTARTER

Moving from our Wood St Market Stall to our Leytonstone Taqueria required a group effort, so enlisted the help of Kickstarter to fund a successful £72,840 campaign to raise the cashflow required to relocate. With the help of 880 Kickstarter backers, Homies on Donkeys were able to make a new home in Leytonstone.

HOMIES ON DONKEYS reviews

Our new Taqueria in Leytonstone has won rave reviews, not only from our loyal band of customers but mainstream media too. From Grace Dent at The Guardian to The Nudge & Infatuation London.

The food is truly astonishingly good. These dishes have been carefully honed, with no heed to the notion of pulling back on the spice, acid, sweetness or umami. Even the refried beans have an intoxicating, miso-like undertone that lifts them from mere afterthought to star of the show.

GRACE DENT

The Guardian

Tacos and hip hop: a kick-ass combination. And that’s what you’ll find at this graffiti-plastered taqueria in Leytonstone, run by a duo who originally hail from Tijuana. Tacos arrive in pairs, laden with the likes of medium-rare bavette steak with jalapeño relish; charred broccoli with refried beans; and hunks of slow-cooked chicken thigh with roasted tomato salsa.

THE NUDGE

The Insiders’ Guide To London

Stepping off Leytonstone High Road and into Homies On Donkeys is like slipping into a warm serotonin bath of excellent tacos, friendly service, and mood-boosting artwork. The taqueria is equal parts joyful and relaxing, and mainlining tacos here is our idea of self-care.
